Jerry Tenenberg is the founder of Think Organic, the brand that sells organic herbs and spices. He is a real pioneer in organic space, having created one of the first natural food supermarkets in the U.S. in 1977 and having travelled the world to locate and organize organic farming production. Today, Think Organic is a supplier to major food companies, big-box retailers, and having its own brand of Think Organic herbs and spices that are sold on Amazon and elsewhere.

Jeff Helfand is also joining us today. Prior to starting up Think Organic with Jerry, Jeff has been in the eCommerce industry since the late 90s. Today, Jeff is the General Manager and Vice President of e-commerce at Think Organic.

We’re trying to educate our customers and future customers that when you’re buying a product from Think Organic, you are getting something that is safe, tastes amazing and you can trust us.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • All Think Organic products are 100% organic.

  • Most of the Think Organic products are often priced at a premium to others in the category.

  • Jerry spent decades walking the globe, working with farmers and their families, helping them build a better income and better future.

  • There's inherently going to be some difference between conventional products and organic products. All their products are RTE (ready-to-eat) and that means that they're safe because they’ve been tested for pathogens, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, and all of that's negative.

  • The fertilizers that are used are natural, sustainable, they're not destroying topsoils and they're not destroying the agricultural balance. It's going to cost a little bit more, and that delivers into the price for the product.

  • Many of the spice companies take salts, sugars, artificial flavors, maltodextrin and they plate flavors onto them. That's a very inexpensive way to deliver spice blends. Think Organic keep salts to a minimum and they depend on 100 percent food product and real ingredients.

  • Taking all these complex elements and these stories and distilling them down to an easy to consume product page is ultra-critical today.

  • The smallest effort you make in everything you do has very important ramifications in the whole scheme of things.

  • When you do your best and you do well in it, it's in sync with what is the right thing.

  • One of the measurements is product reviews.

  • Being happy every day is incredibly valuable.

  • The pandemic has been a considerable force in the food industry. It's put a lot of strain on the supply chain.
